THE FUTURE OF DIAMONDS 21 FEBRUARY 2022
Exploring the future of diamonds
The diamond industry successfully emerged from the pandemic with surging demand and rocketing prices. The panel sessions will seek to answer why this happened, the changing nature of consumer behaviour, the risks and opportunities for diamond companies over the coming year, and ways to build on this positive momentum to strengthen the entire diamond industry.
Why did diamonds do so well during COVID?
The natural diamond industry has done better than anyone could have imagined or dreamed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whilst numerous sectors understandably suffered during this period, the diamond business saw unprecedented success across the whole supply chain. Why did this happen? What are the risks? And how can we build on this momentum to create a stronger diamond industry in the future?
The New Consumer and Changing Demands
Over the last few years, lab grown diamonds have dominated the conversation in our industry more than any other subject. These diamonds that have been made in a laboratory in a couple of weeks, as opposed to millions of years under the ground, have not only entered the consciousness of our industry but are now also firmly in the minds of the consumer, and particularly the new changing modern consumer. Googling the term “lab diamonds” has been on a clear upward trend over the past couple of years.
This panel will discuss this key topic and explore the interplay between these lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds. And key to this is how the “new consumer” feels about diamonds in general.
Rethinking the Diamond Supply Chain
Most people attending this conference are not retailers or miners, but rather midstream players who don’t have much direct interaction with the consumer or feel they influence miner strategy. What is the role of midstream player and the successful diamantaire and how can this crucial part of the supply chain make the most impact for the future? In this panel we discuss technology and changes in the modern world that are affecting the diamond industry. And, most importantly, how technology is changing the way the midstream reacts to consumer developments.
Perspectives from the trade associations
Leading figures from international trade associations convene to debate how impending changes in the diamond industry will impact their members. This select group of figureheads will be pressed on how confident their member bases are about the road ahead, and what level of support they require in order to be a success in a post-COVID-19 landscape
Venue
Located on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island, the conference will be held at the iconic ‘Atlantis, The Palm’, minutes away from the city’s most popular attractions.
